Pirates in the Mist
Creater:RawDeal
Date reviewed: 10/17/99

Pirates in the Mist is the best 1 on 1 i ever played.

The Pirates in the Mist is named well, all right. All resources in the map are either nebula or gas clouds. And the
Pirates? They are there allright. A lot of them. Luckily, they don't chase your units, but it can get pretty ugly if you
stumble on to them.

The layout is good....if you can think in 3D. The map forces you to use the 3D features of Homeworld a lot. Rawdeal
didn't make the mistake of taking the 3D out of a great map by putting the mother ships on the same level, either. The
enemy Mother ship is placed above or below yours.

Game play is great fun. The pirates keep you on your toes, while the low default starting resources can make small
fighter skirmishes common. Proper watching of your RCs is a must, or they will fly right to the Pirates and get blow
away.

The Background is also good. It uses a cool orange nebula background, and it also has a planet below you for a
little extra coolness.

My only complaints are these. First, the pirates are also not so fun at times. Stumbling in to them with your fleet is not
fun, as you don't win anything for killing them. Another problem is capturing them. I wiped out the Pirate fighters and
then had a easy time with the rest of the game, because i captured the entire pirate fleet. Ended up with a shit load of
Ion Array Frigates. In fact, i even go some Mutli-Beam Frigates that i found on the map. This can imbalance things
a bit.And of course, this is only a 1 on 1.

Layout - 75
Fun Factor - 85
Background - 80
Originality - 75
Overall - 75

Uses 3D? - A lot
Has unbuildable units? - No
Game pace - Slow
Amount of resources - Low at start, very high near end.
