IX Field Dispute

IX Field Dispute is the first new map i ever played on, and it totally
got rid my thinking that
homeworld maps couldn't add a lot new. IX Field Dispute is a good deal
different then most of the
maps played on WON.
As soon as you see your mother ship on IX Field Dispute, you will start
to get the feeling that
this is going to be a fun game for all. The map starts you off in a
positions outside a large resource
patch that everyone is going to try and harvest. This patch makes the
best part of the map. It may
not be fancy, but it keeps a knife one every ones neck. The slightest
mishap could be the end of
your resource collectors, and soon after, you. As long as the players
don't just twiddle their
thumbs, you're going to be in for a fairly intense game.
The Background is very cool. The single moon in the background is large
and menacing. It is a very
cool backdrop, since most the other maps seem prefer nebulas. The background
music is the
battle music you'll hear in the single player game, and is a nice touch,
although i think it may get
tiresome over time.
The Layout of the map is very balanced, as well. All the players have
pretty much equal footing, as
far as i can tell.
The map only has two major problems, pretty good for a first try. The
first problem, and the worst
one, are the 15 Light Defenders that were put in for novelty. These
ships aren't much worse then
defenders. They are way to powerful, and shave off some of the maps
fun. They make is impossible
to attack with scouts or interceptors in the early game. Since the
map seems to be made for quick
and intense game play, i was surprised at this. The other problem is
the total lack of any 3D thinking
needed. You don't have much reason to use the 3D features.
Overall though, a great map. Here are the scores.
